5 Ways To Protect Yourself From Getting Sick

Your body can only run on what you feed it. If you exist on fast food and donuts, you will be more likely to get sick when exposed to germs. Build up your immune system by eating plenty of leafy greens, fresh fruits, nuts and seeds, whole grains, healthy fats and proteins. Finding organic sources of food may help you from consuming pesticides and other toxins that might negatively affect your health. Avoid processed foods and refined sugar to give your body the best chance to fight illness. 

2. Barriers

When you need to be around others, having a barrier to stop germs may be effective. Many feel that masks, acrylic sneeze guards and staying six feet away can protect you from exposure. If you are working with the public every day, you will appreciate the measures taken by your employer to keep you safe. Even if you don’t believe that masks are necessary, be sensitive to others around you. Calm their anxiety by keeping your distance. 

3. Sleep

Getting adequate rest is essential to fight off potential illness. Studies have shown the link between sleep and immunity. Most adults need seven to eight hours of sleep each night to be well-rested. Set a nighttime routine that will encourage you to get to bed on time. Some ideas to wind down are: turn off your screens an hour before bedtime, take a warm bath, do some stretching, listen to calming music or read a book.

4. Vaccinations

Vaccines are available for several possible diseases. Many get their annual flu shot, and vaccines are now available for COVID-19. There are a few possible side effects, and many have chosen to get their shots to avoid the risk of illness. Vaccines can be a controversial issue, and it is important to respect other’s decisions about their own health. 

5. Exercise

Get out in the sunshine whenever possible, breathe some fresh air and get moving. Taking a 30-minute walk each day may boost your immune system. Regular exercise might also help control your weight, help you sleep better and fight off depression.
